After a hiatus last summer due to the pandemic, the 74th Cannes Film Festival is underway in France — and the glamorous red carpet is back in full swing. Blessedly for our eyeballs (and fantasy fashion wish lists), “casual” is never the dress code on the Cannes red carpet 2021 because even when an iconic French star like Charlotte Gainsbourg wears a Canadian tuxedo, it looks insouciant yet elevated, and with that certain je ne sais quoi.
This year, celebrities cranked the glam factor up several notches and left the red carpet masks at home. There was model Bella Hadid who turned the red carpet into her own personal runway in vintage Jean Paul Gaultier and Chopard jewels. Andie MacDowell made an impossibly chic return to the red carpet, silver curls flowing, in designers like Prada and Versace. But perhaps the most eye-catching Cannes red carpet 2021 appearances so far have come from Jodie Turner-Smith, in two Gucci looks, the first accessorized for a daytime photo call with a whip (yes, an actual riding crop) and the second custom creation combining a studded corset top with a skirt made of canary yellow ostrich feathers.
Here are some of the best looks from the Cannes red carpet 2021.
