A Marks & Spencer Lounge and Underwear Collection
British supermodel, David Gandy adds his signature to another British classic, Marks & Spencer. Following in the footsteps of another famous David, Gandy’s 28-piece collection of underwear and loungewear, called ‘Autograph’, was designed by him. The high street giant tested out the idea of using a model to design underwear a couple of years ago when it enlisted the British model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley to design a lingerie range. After proving a big hit – it became the fastest selling underwear range in the store’s history – M&S decided to try it out with a men’s range.
The collection sits within Marks & Spencer’s more upmarket ‘Autograph’ range which fits in with how Gandy hopes to roll out further product launches. ‘I want to make sure that anything I do is ‘premium,’ he says. ‘This is a toe in the water for me to see how it goes and I’m glad I’m doing it with M&S – they’re the underwear experts.’
It’s the first time says Gandy that he’s been involved in the design of a product range. ‘It evolved from me having more of an input on the shoots I was doing and having an interest in the image and clothes and how they’re put together,’ he says. ‘And it seemed natural to do my own underwear range. In many ways that’s what I became known for.’ Gandy went global in 2007 when he sported a pair of tiny white trunks for Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue fragrance ads.
