Praised for her signature watercolour style, renowned Toronto artist Deana Nastic swaps her paint brushes for the camera with her latest project called Invisible Brush, a photography series featuring famed model Yasmin Warsame. The large-scale, black-and-white portraits continue to convey the style and technique Nastic consistently captures in her paintings, only this time through photography.
Nastic was born in 1964 in Belgrade (Serbia and Montenegro). While the artist was studding at the University of Belgrade, she was introduced to German Expressionism by her private tutor, who was himself a student of Hans Hoffman. This style made the biggest impact on her development as a painter. After finishing her studies, Deana Nastic was awarded with a scholarship to pursue a master degree at the same University. In 1992, Deana Nastic moved to Toronto, Canada. Deana Nastic’s work is primarily figurative. Deana Nastic is an internationally recognized artist with numerous exhibitions in Europe, Canada and the USA.
