ABOUT KOL HOPE FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN
Kol Hope Foundation for Childrenis a Canadian charitable organization that helps and supports children with disabilities in Canada and around the world. The foundation is named after Kol, who was born with Trisomy 13, a fatal genetic syndrome. Kol was severely disabled, required life support and 24 hour care, was fed by g-tube and was unable to walk or talk. He passed away on October 9th, 2011, and has left behind an incredible legacy of love, charity and hope. He is the story and inspiration behind Kol Hope Foundation for Children. Since its inception, Kol Hope Foundation for Children has been devoted and dedicated to caring for children with disabilities. Kol Hope is proud to have SickKids, Easter Seals and World Vision as its Canadian beneficiaries.
SickKids played an important role in Kol’s survival, and it was through the hospital’s medical and professional care that Kol surpassed his diagnosis of three months, and lived for 14 years. This special fund created under his name, allows all the “little Kols” of the world, a chance for a better life. TheKol Hope Fund at SickKids supports the work of the hospital, and has helped fund the Sick Kids Genetics Clinic, which provides the best care to kids with chromosomal disorders. The total cumulative total donated to SickKids is $107, 500. to date.
“I Can’t believe it’s been 10 years. When I look back at my first piece of marketing material (with hopeful aspirations that we would be open in the Fall of 2004) it feels like yesterday that I was planning my dream store, that would be “a one-stop shopping oasis for men…with clothes to get them laid in…complete with a men’s only spa…in a bachelor pad environment”. I’m thankful that I was too naive to realize that a 5,000 sq foot, buzz to get in, second floor walk up store, might not have been the best idea (amongst other mistakes) but I knew I hit a core with men in this city, wanting to dress better. 10 years, and lots of stress later, we now have two thriving stores, an on-line business, strong social presence, an amazing team, great customers who continue to support us and the ability to breathe! I can’t wait for the next 10 years…..” – Melissa Austria, Founder of Gotstyle.
