The three movies in Netflix’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series extensively covered the evolving relationship of Lara Jean Covey and Peter Kavinsky, played by the charming Lana Candor and Noah Centineo. Though their romance was central to every film, another big part of Lara Jean’s story was her family. Netflix is turning the world of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before into a series, and it will focus on the youngest Covey sister, Kitty, played by Anna Cathcart.
This decision was hinted at during the final moments of To All the Boys: Always and Forever. No spoilers, but it seems like the precocious youngster has finally been bitten by the love bug. The show is titled XO, Kitty, so it sounds like her journey will also involve some heartfelt correspondence.
What is the plot?
Netflix says this about Kitty’s journey:
Teen matchmaker Kitty Song Covey thinks she knows everything there is to know about love. But when she moves halfway across the world to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend, she’ll soon realize that relationships are a lot more complicated when it’s your own heart on the line.
Co-showrunner and author of the book the film was based on, Jenny Han, said in an interview that both Lara Jean and Margot Covey (played by Janel Parrish) will be off in college when Kitty flies to Seoul to see if she and the boy she’s been writing can make it work IRL.
Who is in the cast?
Han hinted in an interview that Centineo and Condor could return to reprise their roles at some point in the series, but it might just be a dream she’s having.
“That would be, like, a dream to see them again,” she told Insider in October 2021. “But we’ll have to wait and see.”
Condor is working on her own Netflix show titled Boo, Bitch, an eight-episode live-action comedy limited series from Erin Ehrlich. So, she’s still with the streaming service. Maybe the sets will be close to one another?
It sounds like Kitty will be spending a lot of time in Seoul and potentially away from her parents, so it’s unclear if John Corbett and Sarayu Rao will be back as Kitty’s dad and step-mom.
How many episodes will XO, Kitty have?
Netflix has announced one season of ten episodes, each one thirty minutes long. Han has described them as covering “basically the stories that I would have written if I was going to continue with the books.”
A release date has not yet been set.
