What better as an artist than to speak your truth. Beyoncé’s epic 60-minute long reckoning on HBO this weekend – art imitating life.
The poetic visual album takes us into the soul of the artist. It’s mesmerizing, thought-provoking and poignant—above all, it is honest. Beyoncé reveals struggles and intimacies and shows up stronger than ever.
“Beyoncé has been inching toward this transformation since 2011’s album ‘4’, which despite modest sales felt raw, candid, authentically independent and political; it pushed buttons.” says CNN “With ‘Lemonade’, the visual album she unveiled on HBO Saturday night, Beyoncé has now emerged further — unapologetic, in all of her identities.
Who knows what sparked her musical revolution. Could it be the advent of social media and the public craving to know personal details of her life? The flood in New Orleans? The drumbeat of police shootings of people of color? The rise of Black Lives Matter? Motherhood?”
Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade‘ has left the world abuzz since HBO debuted the visual album for a 27-hour window Saturday night. For those who missed it, it’s available for purchase via iTunes, or streaming via Jay Z’s Tidal platform. But the television drop makes it eligible for Emmy consideration, and HBO plans to submit “Lemonade” in the variety special category says Variety.
Beyoncé previously received two Emmy nominations, for her Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show in 2013 and for the “On the Run Tour” concert special with Jay Z.
